With a guy like Mac Miller, a top 10 list varies heavily based on your mood. That doesn’t necessarily mean day-by-day. It can mean month-by-month or even by year. A year and a half ago, my Mac Miller list would’ve been much different than it is now. Songs from Swimming, his 2018 album, would be much more prevalent and higher up. But, time goes on and my list has changed.
Kicking it off is a tribute to the fall of 2018 and a song I listened to daily. Self Care reflects on Mac’s struggles, dealing with hardships and addiction. Throughout the song, filled with hums, Miller tries to cope with his struggles. Many believe the song is in part about his break-up with Ariana Grande, and his struggle to trust. Later on he mentions driving too fast and crashing into a tree, in which he was later arrested for a DUI. Download logic free for mac.

The album encompasses a foreshadowing loneliness accumulating around Miller’s life. But in Self Care, Miller’s convinced that there’s light at the end and he will come out better for it. The first half of the song is drowned-out with Miller purposely stumbling over cadences as he struggles to find the right wording. But later the message becomes clear. Mac eezes to the point he’s trying to make – that he hasn’t found what he’s looking for yet. But eventually it’ll come and for now he’s content to sit and wait.
We is essentially the opposite of Self Care. Omnisphere 2 destanation select. In Swimming, Mac is alone but in The Divine Feminine he’s surrounded by love and jovial in his relationship. However the relaxed, soothing attitude is constant in both songs. Mac slowly expresses himself, with the help of CeeLo Green, to portray his message of eternal love.
The song starts out with CeeLo Green vocals before the beat jumps in and Mac hops on. While Mac slows down, the beat and CeeLo Green up the tempo, forming a well functioning back and forth. That motif is present throughout The Divine Feminine of Mac’s relationship with his girlfriend.
Spotify keeps saying please go online to download. On Red Dot Music, paired with Action Bronson, the two rappers come out with an aggressive beat and gravelly tones. In the 2013 song, Mac’s first line is “Uh, think I can see a fucking halo (halo), about to meet my maker”. Spotify app sleep timer android. The hook of the song later begins “I said it must be the drugs that got us thinking crazy shit”.

I wish the two artists collabed on more songs since this one worked so well. With Action singing the hook, and a hyped up beat, the duo works perfectly. Unfortunately, in hindsight, it’s hard to overlook the lyrics and Mac’s future.
Weekend is a 180 turn from Miller’s mixtape “Faces” which was released in 2014 – right before GO:OD AM. With Miguel on the hook, “Weekend” serves as a relaxing, happy song. Throughout the song the two artists bemoan the week, and the harsh reality that they won’t be able to see their girl until the weekend, as Miguel croons at the end of the song. But they live for the weekend, and can’t wait for the next one five days later.

Dunno is a slow paced somber song that starts out with Miller humming along to the background music. He begins the song presumably talking about his ex Ariana Grande. Throughout the song, he reminisces on his times with her, which consumes the album. My takeaway from this song is in the hook, where Miller sings “Until there is no longer, let’s get lost inside the clouds/ And you don’t gotta work harder”. Miller ends the hook saying “I think we just might be alright.”
It’s almost like he’s talking to Grande in the moment in his mind, but talking to himself when he transports back to the present and is forced to face reality. It’s also a good song to escape reality with the artist, if only for a few minutes.
This list has coincidentally ping ponged from sad to cheerful. ROS falls under the latter. With a piano playing in the background, Miller croons to an unknown girl about his love. Like Dunno, this song is a slow burn, but the message is completely different. Here Miller is still “trying to find you”. My spotify says spotify free. Around the 1:30 mark the beat comes in and Mac switches it up from singing to rap. Like some other songs on this list, this one is a great one to quietly listen to while cruising in the night.
Stay starts out with trumpets, which usually symbols the start of a solid rap song. Like the rest of the album, this is a song about love and his girlfriend. Throughout the song Miller pairs his cadence well with the trumpets in the background. More so than other songs on the album, Mac attacks his raps with passion. If you like rap with jazz influences, this song and the next are great to check out.
Two of the top three songs on this list contain features from Kendrick Lamar. This one happens to end The Divine Feminine, and kicks off with a piano to create a jazz tune before delving into a funkadelic hit. With Lamar’s vocals in the background, Mac comes out of the gate talking about love and sex as he does throughout the album.
As Miller said this song, “sounds like being in the ocean, relaxing, calm, floating and just like there and comfortable in your thoughts, and that’s how the record ends, which is so awesome.”
Even though Kendrick never spits a bar on the song, it doesn’t feel like it’s missing anything. Lamar is present throughout the song with his background vocals, which fit perfectly. Eventually the singers step back and let the piano take over, which gels with the beat. At the end of the song, Mac’s grandmother comes on to talk about her loving relationship with her husband. This loving finish ends Mac’s album of love.
This 2014 song available on Soundcloud shows a young, chipper, frat-like Mac Miller. In the music video, he’s surrounded by a crowd having fun smoking, rapping, and enjoying life. And before switching his style, Miller shows that he’s got the bars to hang with the best in rap.
Mac eases over the relaxed beat to create one of his best songs. It’s unfortunate it isn’t on Spotify, but it’s worth looking up.
Finally the top Mac Miller song – featuring Kendrick Lamar once again – is from the 2012 album “Macadelic”. I’m a bigger fan of later Mac Miller, but this is his best song in my opinion. The beat is a quick, happy beat as Mac instructs listeners to close their eyes right away. Then he hops on in a quick scheme full of unpredictability. Background tunes and quick hooks are filled throughout this song.
Like most of Miller’s discography, this is a relaxing song to enjoy alone or with others. After a couple verses Miller subsides and Kendrick steps to the mic immediately bringing in a different cadence which is purposely choppy but works. Overall, this is a five minute song that is put on repeat as soon as it ends. In classic Mac and Kendrick style, the end of the song is an audio sex scene, because you know, you can’t Fight The Feeling.
GO:OD AM followed in 2015 with Lil B, Chief Keef, and Miguel on the album's guest list. The single '100 Grandkids' peaked appropriately at number 100, while 'Weekend' was certified gold. Just a year after GO:OD AM ascended to the Top Five of the Billboard 200 and rap charts, Miller returned with his fourth LP, The Divine Feminine. The album featured contributions from guests like Kendrick Lamar, Cee Lo Green, Ariana Grande, Robert Glasper, and Anderson.Paak, who lent his soulful rasp to first single 'Dang!' A pair of non-album singles ('Buttons' and 'Programs') kept Miller busy into 2018, when he issued his fifth album, Swimming. Debuting at number three on both the Billboard 200 and R&B/hip-hop charts, the set included the songs 'Small Worlds,' 'Self-Care,' and 'What's the Use?' A month after the release of the effort, Miller died from a suspected drug overdose in his San Fernando Valley home. He was 26 years old. Following his death, seven of his albums posthumously charted on the Billboard 200, including the debut appearances of Best Day Ever and Macadelic. In early 2020, his first posthumous set was released. Intended as a companion to Swimming, Circles featured vocals recorded for this eventual project, which was completed by producer Jon Brion. The LP became Miller's fifth Top Three showing on the U.S. charts. Later that year, KIDS was released to streaming services for the first time, which helped place it back on the Billboard 200. ~ David Jeffries & Neil Z. Yeung, Rovi
